temperament: An animal's inherited and acquired attitude in any given situation; critical criteria for adoptive pets or working dogs.

terrapin: A family of tortoises that inhabit land and water.

tortoise: Shelled animals that spend most of their lives on land.

turtle: Shelled reptiles that spend most of their time in water.

zoonosis: Any of a group of illnesses that animals carry that can be transmitted to humans, including parasitic worms, salmonella, ringworm and West Nile virus.
